India’s major ports handled 915.17m tonnes of cargo in FY2025–26, beating the 904m-tonne target and delivering 7.06% year-on-year growth, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

Throughput was led by Deendayal Port Authority at 160.11m tonnes, followed by Paradip Port Authority at 156.45m tonnes and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority at 102.01m tonnes, anchoring system volumes.

Further contributions from Visakhapatnam Port Authority, Mumbai Port Authority, Chennai Port Authority and New Mangalore Port Authority supported aggregate gains across bulk, liquid and container cargo.

On growth, Mormugao Port Authority posted a 15.91% increase, ahead of Kolkata Dock System at 14.28% and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority at 10.74%, pointing to higher utilisation and stronger cargo flows.

Volumes were driven by capacity expansion, tighter terminal productivity, improved hinterland connectivity and wider deployment of digital systems, alongside increased handling of coal, crude oil, containers, fertilisers and petroleum products. Faster turnaround and streamlined processes further supported throughput.
