A 40-year-old woman from Delhi died under unexplained circumstances at a five-star hotel in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, on Wednesday evening, police said.
The deceased, identified as Jyoti Sharma, a resident of Lodhi Road’s Mehar Chand Market area, had travelled to Uttarakhand with her business partner, Amit Chaudhary. The two had visited the revered Kainchi Dham in Bhowali earlier and were returning to Delhi when they decided to halt overnight in Rudrapur due to the late hour.
According to SSP Ajay Ganpati, the pair checked into the hotel late Tuesday night and ordered drinks. On Wednesday afternoon, they reportedly ordered beer, after which Sharma’s health suddenly deteriorated.
Chaudhary alerted hotel staff, who arranged an ambulance. She was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage, questioning hotel staff, and interrogating Chaudhary, who has been detained. A forensic team has also been deployed to examine the scene.
No case has been registered so far, as authorities are awaiting the postmortem and forensic reports to determine the exact cause of death.
