JAISALMER: Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman and her alleged lover for the murder of her husband in Rajasthan’s Balotra district.
The accused, identified as Anu Devi and Amraram—a Tilwara resident and government school teacher posted in the Chidiya area—are alleged to have strangled Mahendra Meghwal (21) at his home in Malwa Goylan village under Gida police station limits.
According to Station House Officer Dalpatsingh Chaudhary, Anu had married Mahendra around three years ago, but their relationship was strained, with frequent disputes. She had been living at her maternal home for an extended period and had returned to her husband’s house only a few days before the incident.
Police said Anu came into contact with Amraram during her stay at her maternal home.
On Friday night, an argument reportedly broke out between the couple. When Mahendra did not come out of his room for a long time, family members grew suspicious and entered the room, where they found him lying dead on a cot with marks on his neck.
The police were alerted and reached the spot. The body was sent for post-mortem at a community health centre mortuary and later handed over to the family.
Following a complaint by Mahendra’s brother, police detained Anu and Amraram for questioning. During interrogation, the two allegedly confessed to the crime and were subsequently arrested.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
