NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss the evolving situation in West Asia, with both leaders emphasising the need to ensure safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
During the telephonic conversation, Modi condemned attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates and expressed concern over the loss of innocent lives and damage to civilian infrastructure. The two leaders agreed to work closely for the early restoration of peace, security, and stability in the region.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he conveyed advance Eid greetings to the UAE President and reiterated India’s strong condemnation of violence in the region. He added that both sides underlined the importance of maintaining secure maritime routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor.
This marks Modi’s second conversation with the UAE President since the recent escalation involving the United States and Israel targeting Iran, which was followed by retaliatory strikes affecting parts of the Gulf.
Since the outbreak of the conflict, Modi has also engaged with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Israel, and Iran, reflecting India’s ongoing diplomatic outreach amid the crisis.
