HYDERABAD: An auto-rickshaw driver from Telangana’s Kamareddy district has been arrested for allegedly killing his three minor daughters by drowning them in a lake, police said on Sunday.
The accused had initially approached the police along with his wife on March 6, claiming that their three daughters—aged 8, 6 and 5—had gone missing.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and began searching for the girls. Investigators questioned local residents and circulated the children’s photographs through messaging apps in an effort to locate them.
However, suspicion grew when the father reportedly gave inconsistent answers about the last time he had seen the children and attempted to mislead investigators. After tracking his movements and questioning him further, police said he eventually confessed to the crime.
According to investigators, the man had taken the girls to a nearby lake in the town on the morning of March 6 under the pretext of an outing. He then allegedly pushed them into the water one after another, resulting in their deaths.
Police said the accused was struggling with financial difficulties and was addicted to several vices. During questioning, he reportedly stated that he felt unable to raise his three daughters and decided to kill them.
The man has been arrested and charged with murder. He has since been remanded to judicial custody, police said.
