New Delhi: Nearly 7,000 Indian nationals stranded in the United Arab Emirates since February 28 have been flown back to India over the past three days, with additional flights scheduled over the next 48 hours from several UAE airports.

According to the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, further departures are being arranged from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Fujairah to bring back the remaining passengers.

Deepak Mittal, India’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, and Satish Sivan, the Consul General of India in Dubai, held a meeting on Thursday with representatives of Indian and UAE airlines to review ongoing efforts to assist stranded travellers.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy said stranded Indians can book or rebook tickets directly with airlines or through local travel agents as carriers gradually resume limited, non-scheduled flight operations.

Officials said priority has been given to transit passengers and those on short-term visits, many of whom have already returned home in recent days. Airlines are now working to incrementally increase the number of special flights from various UAE airports, subject to airspace safety conditions and operational clearances from authorities.
