LUCKNOW: The body of a 35-year-old man was discovered inside a freezer at a vegetarian biryani shop in the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area of Lucknow on Sunday morning, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay Pal, a resident of Kishanpur Majra under the BKT police station limits.
According to officials, the shop had remained closed for the past four days following the death of the father of the shop owner, Shani Rawat. When Rawat returned on Sunday morning to reopen the outlet, he was reportedly shocked to find a body inside the freezer and immediately alerted authorities.
Police reached the spot, recovered the body from the freezer, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Family members said Vijay Pal worked as a daily wager and had been living alone since separating from his wife five years ago. They also stated that he struggled with alcohol addiction.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone) Rishabh Runwal said that the post-mortem examination could not immediately determine the exact cause of death. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the incident.
