NEW DELHI: A day after Canada’s announcement, India on Thursday confirmed that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will undertake a four-day visit to India starting Friday, describing it as taking place at a crucial stage in the normalisation of bilateral relations.

The government said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Carney had previously agreed to advance a constructive and balanced partnership anchored in mutual respect for each other’s concerns and sensitivities, strong people-to-people ties, and expanding economic complementarities.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the upcoming meeting between the two leaders would offer an opportunity to reaffirm the renewed momentum and shared vision for building a forward-looking India-Canada partnership.

Carney will arrive in Mumbai on Friday for his first official visit to India. He is scheduled to travel to New Delhi on March 2 for bilateral talks with Modi. During his stay in Mumbai, he will take part in business engagements, meet Indian and Canadian CEOs, industry and financial leaders, educators, and representatives of Canadian pension funds operating in India.

According to the MEA, Modi and Carney will review progress across various areas of the India-Canada Strategic Partnership, building on their earlier meetings in Kananaskis in June 2025 and Johannesburg in November 2025.
