VASAI: A 31-year-old man was brutally killed late Friday night in Nalasopara West, allegedly over an old enmity. Nalasopara police have registered a murder case, naming five accused in the FIR along with four to five unidentified persons. One suspect has been arrested, while teams have been formed to trace the remaining accused.

The victim, identified as Shubham Mishra, was reportedly known to the attackers. The murder, carried out on a public road, sparked panic in the locality.

According to police, the incident began around 9.30 pm at a bar in the Gala Nagar area of Nalasopara East, where Mishra was present along with Roshan Singh and two others. An argument allegedly broke out between Mishra and Roshan over a previous dispute, during which Roshan is said to have threatened him and referred to a case that Mishra had filed against him.

Later, the group reportedly planned to meet an acquaintance in Nalasopara West. Upon reaching a junction, the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was stopped on some pretext. When Mishra stepped out, he was allegedly attacked. Sources said Roshan had summoned additional accomplices to the spot, suggesting the assault was premeditated.

Around 11.30 pm, when the area had become relatively deserted, Jagan Mehndi, Sunil Malusare, Suraj Singh and several associates allegedly arrived on motorcycles. Mishra was first stabbed in the thigh and hip. After he fell to the ground, the assailants allegedly bludgeoned him with a stone, inflicting fatal injuries. He died on the spot due to severe bleeding.

Officers from Nalasopara Police Station reached the scene after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

An FIR has been registered against Roshan Singh, Jagan Mehndi, Sunil Malusare, Suraj Singh, Tinkle Mishra and four to five others under relevant sections of murder, the Maharashtra Police Act and the Arms Act.

One accused has been arrested so far, while others remain absconding. Police have deployed additional personnel in the area to maintain law and order. Further investigation is underway.
