BHOPAL: Nishatpura Police have identified a woman whose decomposed body was discovered inside a trunk dumped in a water tank on a vacant plot in Six Ghara, Kamal Nagar. Her live-in partner, along with his mother, brother and sister, has been arrested in connection with the case.
Police said the woman was allegedly killed on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. According to investigators, the accused kept the body at his residence for nearly a day before placing it in a trunk and disposing of it in a water tank located about 200 metres from the house.
During the attempt to dump the trunk, the accused reportedly slipped and then sought assistance from his family members, who allegedly helped him complete the disposal, officials said.
The crime came to light on Thursday afternoon when a local resident noticed a strong foul smell emanating from the tank and alerted the police. A team from the station, accompanied by forensic experts, reached the spot and retrieved the trunk. The tank — around 10 feet deep and partially filled with water — had to be drained with the help of locals. Authorities also found a dead animal inside.
Station House Officer Manoj Patwa said the body appeared to be three to four days old and was in an advanced stage of decomposition when recovered. Investigators suspect that stones were placed inside the trunk, possibly to weigh it down.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway to piece together the sequence of events and gather forensic evidence.
