A 35-year-old man was killed after being stabbed during an argument over feeding a stray dog at an eatery in Raipur on Monday night.
The victim, Shiv Prasad Dhruv, a resident of Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh, died on the spot after suffering a fatal chest injury.
Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Shukla said the incident began when Dhruv, a crane operator, arrived at the eatery on a two-wheeler with two friends. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Police said Dhruv picked up a food plate belonging to another customer, identified as Pawan, who was having dinner, and fed the food to a stray dog. This triggered an argument between the two.
Another man at the spot, identified as Sagar, intervened in support of Pawan. Following the initial confrontation, Dhruv left the area with his friends but returned later with three more people on two motorcycles.
A fresh and heated argument then broke out between the two groups. During the clash, Sagar allegedly stabbed Dhruv in the chest with a vegetable knife. The blade pierced his heart, killing him on the spot, police said.
After the attack, the accused fled the scene.
Police have launched a search operation to trace the suspects and are investigating the matter further.
