A 32-year-old taxi driver was stabbed to death after intervening to stop a group of youths from harassing a girl in Girdawar Colony under the Palla police station area of Faridabad on Monday evening.
The victim, Jai Singh, suffered multiple knife injuries and was declared dead on arrival at B. K. Civil Hospital.
Police said Singh lived in Girdawar Colony with his family and worked as a taxi driver.
According to officials, Singh was sitting in a park near his house on Monday afternoon with his friend, Saurabh, when a boy approached him for help, claiming that some youths were harassing his sister. Singh confronted the group, warned them, and chased them away.
However, around 8 pm, four to five youths allegedly returned to the park and attacked him, said his uncle, Ram Prakash Arya. Singh sustained seven to eight stab wounds, several of them to the chest.
Hearing his screams, his wife Aarti rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood. With the help of Saurabh, she took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Family members alleged that Saurabh initially tried to flee from the hospital after leaving the body there, but local residents caught him and handed him over to the police. He later shared details of the incident with investigators.
Police reached the hospital after being informed by authorities, conducted legal formalities, and handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem.
A murder case has been registered at Palla Police Station on the complaint of Singh’s brother, Jagat. The FIR names Sonu and Tushar, along with others, all residents of the same colony.
Singh was the youngest of three brothers and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
The station house officer said raids are underway to arrest the accused, and further investigation is in progress.
