NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India has approved a one-month extension for filing claims and objections against the draft electoral rolls of Uttar Pradesh, issued on January 6 under Phase II of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
With the revised schedule, the final electoral rolls for the state will now be published on April 10, instead of the earlier deadline of March 6. This marks the third extension in the SIR timeline for Uttar Pradesh.
Previously, on December 11 last year, the commission had postponed the release of the draft rolls from December 26 to December 31. The deadline was later shifted to January 6, with the period for filing claims and objections initially fixed from January 6 to February 6.
In a notification issued on Thursday, the poll panel said it had considered a request from the state’s chief electoral officer and, after reviewing other relevant factors, decided to extend the window for submitting claims and objections until March 6. The earlier cut-off date was February 6.
Revised Schedule
Under the updated timetable, the notice period, scrutiny of enumeration forms, and disposal of claims and objections will continue until March 27. Verification of the health parameters of the electoral rolls is scheduled to be completed by April 3, followed by the final publication on April 10.
Earlier, the schedule had allowed submissions only until February 6, with the disposal process ending on February 27 and final publication planned for March 6.
The extension aims to provide voters additional time to verify their details and ensure greater accuracy in the state’s electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
