CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding signed a contract with Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine Corp on Wednesday to build sixteen 3,000-TEU container vessels valued between $736 million and $896 million.
The contract signing represents the third round of in-depth collaboration between the two parties. The order is the largest in Huangpu Wenchong’s history, said a statement released by the company on Thursday.
The 16 new container ships covered by the contract align with the decarbonization, emission reduction, and green low-carbon development trends of the international shipping industry, according to the statement.
Guangzhou-based Huangpu Wenchong, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp, and Evergreen Marine Corp began their business relationship in 2021 and have cumulatively developed 30 container ships since, according to the statement.
Huangpu Wenchong has delivered 24 vessels to Evergreen Marine so far, it added.
