Ranchi: In a tragic incident, three members of a family in the Kadru area of Ranchi allegedly attempted suicide on Monday, leaving a 24-year-old man dead and his mother and sister battling for life.
The deceased has been identified as Mihir Akhouri, a chartered accountant. His 50-year-old mother, Sneha, who is a lawyer, and his minor sister were rushed to a private hospital after they allegedly consumed poison.
“The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination,” said Anil Kumar Tiwari, in-charge of Argora Police Station.
Possible Financial Distress
According to police, preliminary information suggests that financial difficulties may have played a role in the incident.
“As per information received from neighbours, the family was not financially well-off, which might have triggered the incident. However, we are investigating to ascertain the exact reasons,” Tiwari said.
Mihir had recently qualified as a chartered accountant, while his mother practised law. His sister is currently pursuing her college education in the city.
Incident Came to Light After Neighbour’s Alert
The matter came to light around 2.30 pm on Monday, when a neighbour grew concerned after hearing unusual noise from the house and went to check on the family. The neighbour then alerted authorities, who rushed the victims to hospital.
Police are recording statements of neighbours and relatives and examining other evidence to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
Further investigation is underway.
