NEW DELHI: In a significant example of international law enforcement cooperation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), acting as India’s Interpol wing, coordinated the deportation of three Red Notice fugitives to Malaysia on January 27. The individuals were intercepted in Mumbai after arriving from the United Kingdom and were handed over to Malaysian authorities following a high-security operation.
The fugitives have been identified as Sridharan Subramaniam, Pratifkumar Selvaraj and Navindren Raj Cumarason. They are wanted by Malaysian authorities for their alleged involvement in organised criminal activities. Officials said the trio is accused of committing serious offences aimed at gaining material benefits, power and unlawful influence.
The operation began when the three, travelling from the UK, were intercepted by immigration authorities at Mumbai International Airport and denied entry into India. Following this, the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Kuala Lumpur formally approached the CBI — India’s nodal agency for Interpol — seeking assistance in facilitating their return through established Interpol cooperation mechanisms.
In response, a specialised escort team from the Royal Malaysia Police arrived in Mumbai on January 25 to take custody of the fugitives. The transfer was carried out smoothly and securely with the facilitation of the CBI and support from other Indian agencies.
An official said the successful deportation reflects the strong bilateral law enforcement cooperation between India and Malaysia and highlights the effectiveness of Interpol Red Notices in tracking and securing fugitives across borders. The operation, the official added, reaffirms both countries’ commitment to ensuring that wanted individuals are brought to justice in their home jurisdictions.
