RUDRAPUR: Police have arrested two men for the alleged rape of a 25-year-old woman in a moving car in the Transit Camp area of Rudrapur.
According to officials, the survivor stated in her complaint that on the morning of January 25, she was walking from her home to her workplace in Pantnagar when two men offered her a lift, assuring her they would drop her safely. Instead, the accused allegedly drove around before one of them moved to the back seat and raped her inside the moving vehicle. She was later abandoned at a deserted location.
An FIR was registered on Monday under Sections 70(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Based on the woman’s statement and evidence collected during the investigation, police arrested the first accused, aged 34, from his residence on Tuesday and recovered the car allegedly used in the crime. A district forensic team subsequently examined the vehicle and collected evidence, including the survivor’s hair. The second accused, aged 36, was arrested later the same day.
The arrests were carried out by teams from the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the city police.
