AGRA: A 32-year-old HR manager at a private company in Agra was brutally murdered in her office, allegedly by her colleague and lover, after he suspected her of speaking to another man.
Police said the accused beheaded the victim, dismembered her legs, and packed the body parts into bags. He reportedly placed the head in a backpack and the remaining body parts in a plastic bag, then used the victim’s scooter to travel to Jawahar Bridge, intending to dump them into the Yamuna river. As he struggled to carry the bag and noticed passersby nearby, he abandoned it and fled. He later disposed of the victim’s head, clothes, mobile phone and handbag in a drain, and left the scooter in a secluded location.
Body parts were discovered stuffed inside a gunny bag near the bridge in the early hours of January 24, police said on Monday. The head is still missing.
The victim was identified as Minky Sharma, a resident of Tedhi Bagiya in Agra, who worked at a private firm in Sanjay Place. The accused, Vinay Singh (30), worked in the same office as a computer operator. Police said the two had been in a relationship for over two years, though the victim’s family has denied this.
Vinay was arrested on Monday and has confessed to the crime, police said. According to investigators, he grew suspicious after learning that Minky had been in contact with another man for the past six months, which led to frequent arguments.
On January 23, Minky left home around 2 pm, telling her family she was going to work. When she failed to return by evening and her phone was found switched off, her family began searching for her and later filed a missing person complaint, said Trans Yamuna police station SHO Dharmendra Kumar.
DCP (City) Sayed Ali Abbas said Vinay wanted to marry Minky, but she had refused. “When she arrived at the office on January 23, an argument broke out. He attacked her with a knife, delivering a fatal blow to her neck, and then dismembered the body,” he said, adding that family members had identified the remains.
Police said CCTV footage from various locations across the city helped trace and identify the accused.
An FIR has been registered at Trans Yamuna police station under BNS sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence), and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
