Gurgaon: A restaurant worker was killed and two of his colleagues injured after the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in overturned on Golf Course Road early Monday while trying to avoid a stray animal, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sunil Rawat (45), a native of Roorkee in Uttarakhand who was living in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj. He was returning home from work at the time of the accident.
The incident occurred around 4 am as the auto was heading towards Delhi after picking up the three men from their workplace. Police said a stray animal suddenly came onto the road, forcing the driver to brake abruptly, causing the vehicle to lose balance and flip.
A control room call was received around 4.30 am, following which police teams, along with crime and forensic personnel, reached the spot. Sunil, his two colleagues and the auto driver were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Sunil dead. The others sustained injuries and were admitted for treatment.
Police said the injured were later discharged after being found stable, and their statements were recorded as part of the preliminary inquiry. “No criminal case has been registered as no complaint was received from the family,” an officer said, adding that inquest proceedings were conducted under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). After formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
