CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police suspect that Thursday’s explosion in Himachal Pradesh’s Nalagarh was orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as part of an attempt to destabilise the region.

A purported press note surfaced on Thursday in which banned outfits Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Punjab Sovereignty Alliance (PSA) claimed responsibility for the blast near the Nalagarh police station in Solan district.

According to the note, the operation was planned and executed by Gopi Nawanshehria and Kabal Singh. Police sources said Nawanshehria has previously claimed involvement in multiple attacks on police establishments since November 2024.

The groups alleged that the target was linked to the manufacture of synthetic drugs in Himachal Pradesh that were being supplied to Punjab. However, a senior police officer dismissed the claim as baseless. “The ideological justification is a farce. These elements are operating at the behest of the ISI to destabilise the region,” the officer said.

Investigations into the blast and the authenticity of the claims are ongoing.
