NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conveyed New Year greetings to the nation, praying for peace, good health and happiness as India ushered in 2026.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister said, “Wishing everyone a wonderful 2026! May the year ahead bring good health and prosperity, with success in your efforts and fulfilment in all that you do.” In a separate post accompanied by a video message, he added that the new year should bring fresh hopes, renewed resolve and greater self-confidence, inspiring people to move forward in life.

Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu also extended her New Year wishes, describing the occasion as a moment for renewed energy and fresh beginnings. She said she hoped 2026 would bring peace, happiness and prosperity, while strengthening the nation.

Across the country, the New Year was welcomed with vibrant celebrations on Thursday night. Cities were illuminated with fireworks, cultural programmes, live music and festive decorations, as large crowds gathered at public spaces to ring in 2026 with enthusiasm and cheer.
