BENGALURU: Panic gripped commuters on Wednesday night after a rashly driven Hyundai Creta was seen throwing up sparks on the Summanahalli flyover in the Kamakshipalya area of west Bengaluru.

Motorists who drew closer were stunned to find a Bullet motorcycle wedged into the front of the SUV. Despite repeated alerts from other drivers, the vehicle continued moving. Several commuters recorded the incident on their mobile phones and shared the videos on social media.

The SUV was eventually intercepted near the Nayandahalli junction, where angry commuters stopped the vehicle and handed the driver over to the police. A breathalyser test confirmed that the driver, Srinivas K V of Kunigal, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said he also hit another car and a motorbike while being chased.

Srinivas, a wine shop owner from Kunigal in Tumakuru district, was driving towards Sunkadakatte when he rammed into the Bullet bike ridden by Rohit S.

“The SUV hit my Bullet from behind and I was thrown off. As I fell, I saw my bike stuck to the front of the vehicle. It was dragged for nearly 500 metres before it got detached, while the SUV sped towards Nayandahalli,” Rohit said in his complaint to the Kamakshipalya Police Station.

Police registered a case against Srinivas, who allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol due to “personal problems”. He told investigators that he panicked after the collision and was unaware the motorcycle was stuck to his vehicle.

“Fortunately, the biker escaped without injuries. The enraged crowd assaulted the accused, damaged the SUV and smashed its windshield,” an investigating officer said.
