GURGAON: A late-night outing at a city club turned violent after a woman rejected a marriage proposal, with police saying the accused had been harassing her for months and had earlier even fired at her home.

Kalpana (25) was allegedly shot in the stomach after she refused to marry a man who had been pressuring her despite knowing she was already married.

According to police, the woman’s husband told investigators that the accused, Tushar, had been insisting on marrying Kalpana for several months. About a month ago, he allegedly visited their residential locality, created a disturbance and fired at their house, causing panic in the neighbourhood.

A case was registered at the DLF Sector 29 Police Station. Joint teams from the Crime Branch Sector 40 and the MG Road police post tracked down and arrested the accused on December 25 from Baraut.

Police identified them as Tushar alias Jonty (25) and Shubham alias Johnny (24).

A police officer said Tushar had befriended Kalpana around six months ago and wanted to marry her. “On the night of the incident, he arrived at the club with Shubham and again asked her to marry him. When she refused, he fired at her with a pistol,” the officer said.

Both accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
