`China’s crude oil imports from top supplier Russia fell 3.4% to 8.35 million metric tons year on year in November, or 2.03 million barrels per day. Imports from October stood at 9.11 million tons.
Imports from Malaysia, the largest transshipment hub for sanctioned Iranian oil, fell 36.7% to 4.26 million tons year on year, or 1.04 million bpd.
Imports from Indonesia stood at 2.52 million tons in November, or 0.61 million bpd. China imported around 0.1 million tons of crude from Indonesia in the whole of 2024.
Reuters previously reported that the surge in imports from Indonesia has pointed to a way of masking shipments of sanctioned Iranian crude, transshipped in waters off Malaysia.
Imports from Saudi Arabia, China’s second-largest supplier, rose 8.4% to 7.55 million tons year on year, or 1.84 million bpd.
Imports from the UAE dropped 16.8% in November to 2.94 million tons year on year.
Imports from Kuwait remained elevated at 2.21 million tons, up 34.6% from the same period last year. Imports from Kuwait hit the highest level since October 2023 at 2.36 million tons in October.
Imports from Brazil rose 31.6% to 4.89 million tons year on year, or 1.19 million bpd.
Imports from the United States remained at zero for a sixth straight month.
There were no reported imports from Iran or Venezuela.
