NEW DELHI: On Thursday, the Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, recommended the appointment of five high court judges as Chief Justices of various high courts. Additionally, the collegium decided to transfer the current Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court to Kerala High Court.

The collegium, which also includes Justices Vikram Nath and J.K. Maheshwari, proposed the appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta from the Allahabad High Court as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. This recommendation follows the retirement of Justice G. Narendar, leaving the position vacant since January 9.

The collegium further recommended Justice Revati P. Mohite of the Bombay High Court to become the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. This will occur after the transfer of the current Chief Justice, Soumen Sen, to Kerala High Court, a move prompted by the retirement of Justice Nitin Jamdar of Kerala HC on January 9.

Another Bombay HC judge, Justice M.S. Sonak, has been recommended for the position of Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, effective after the retirement of current Chief Justice T.S. Chauhan on January 8.

Additionally, Kerala HC’s Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque has been recommended for the role of Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, and Justice Sangam K. Sahoo from the Orissa High Court has been recommended as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
