NEW DELHI: The murder of a dairy businessman, Ratan, in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri appears to have been a meticulously planned hit, with investigators finding that the attackers travelled from Faridabad and waited at the spot for nearly 30 minutes before opening fire.

Police sources said 12–13 people are suspected to have been involved in the ambush.

Investigators are also examining the possible involvement of a relative of a man allegedly killed by Ratan’s son in May. According to the family, Ratan had been receiving frequent death threats after that incident.

Ratan’s brother, Ram Kumar, said the businessman was on his way to his dairy in Aya Nagar on Sunday when he was intercepted and gunned down.
“After the May incident, Ratan received regular death threats. On Sunday, he left saying he was going to the dairy, and within ten minutes he was brutally killed,” he said.

Another relative, Dharmender, said the shooters appeared to have conducted a detailed reconnaissance. “We learned they arrived in a car and a motorcycle and kept circling the area while waiting for their target,” he said.

The attackers reportedly surrounded Ratan and fired more than 70 rounds, giving him no chance to flee.

The family alleges the killing stems from a long-running land dispute between two families — a feud that escalated after Ratan’s son, Deepak, was arrested for allegedly murdering a man six months earlier. Police, however, say all angles remain under scrutiny.

A senior officer said the murder appears linked to personal rivalry, though the investigation is still underway.

No arrests have been made so far. Police are analysing CCTV footage and other digital evidence to identify everyone involved in what appears to be a highly planned attack.
