ISTANBUL: Pope Leo XIV commenced the inaugural foreign journey of his papacy on Thursday, landing in the predominantly Muslim nation of Turkiye for a visit designed to highlight his commitment to interfaith dialogue and collaboration with various Christian denominations. On his first day in Turkey, Leo engaged in discussions with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He was also slated to meet with local clergy and leaders from other Christian communities, including Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, who presides over the Eastern Orthodox church.
