The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning on Thursday indicating that a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22.

The weather agency stated that this system is likely to strengthen into a depression over the central regions of the south Bay of Bengal by November 24.

The developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal has also prompted the IMD to issue a heavy rain alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Should a cyclone form in the Bay of Bengal, it will be designated the name ‘Senyar’. This name, submitted by the United Arab Emirates, translates to ‘lion’ and is the designation for the next cyclonic storm in the North Indian Ocean, according to the naming roster.

Heavy rainfall alert for Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The weather department forecasts that heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) is highly likely to occur at one or two locations in Nicobar Island. Additionally, heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) is also anticipated for Andaman Island.
