NEW DELHI: A day after a Class 10 student from a private school in central Delhi died by suicide after jumping from the Rajendra Place Metro Station, police on Wednesday registered a case of abetment to suicide based on a complaint filed by the boy’s father.
In his statement, the father accused one teacher and three other staff members of repeatedly harassing his 16-year-old son. A resident of Rajendra Nagar and employed in the jewellery business, he told police that his son had often complained of being scolded over minor issues by several teachers— including the school principal, coordinator, and two others—who he alleged subjected the boy to constant mental harassment.
Police recovered a suicide note from the spot. In it, the teenager apologised to his parents, expressed a desire for his organs to be donated to someone in need, and alleged that he had been harassed by his teachers. He wrote that his final wish was for strict action to be taken against them so that no other child would have to endure similar suffering.
According to police, the father and mother had approached teachers and the principal multiple times regarding the alleged mistreatment, but the situation remained unchanged. On November 18, while the father was in Kolhapur attending to his mother’s medical needs, the boy left for school at 7:15 am as usual. Around 2:45 pm, the father received a call informing him that his son had fallen from Rajendra Place Metro Station and had been taken to a hospital. The family later learned that he had been declared dead on arrival.
Investigators said they found the suicide note in the student’s school bag. The note again mentioned specific teachers whom the boy claimed had troubled him and reiterated his request for action to be taken.
The father further stated that his son’s classmates had informed him of alleged threats made repeatedly by one teacher over the previous four days. According to them, she had warned the boy that she would call his parents and issue him a Transfer Certificate (TC). They also alleged that she had pushed him. On November 18, when the boy slipped during class, the teacher reportedly insulted him in front of the class, accusing him of overacting and creating drama. She allegedly scolded him to the point that he began crying. Despite witnessing the incident, the principal did not intervene, the father claimed.
