Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Maharashtra government to respond to a petition filed by Shehzeen Siddique, widow of former state minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, seeking a court-monitored probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or an independent agency into her husband’s murder.

Shehzeen alleged that investigators ignored her statements regarding the alleged involvement of influential individuals and builders in a conspiracy behind the killing. Siddique was shot dead near his son Zeeshan’s Bandra (East) office on October 12, 2024.

Advocates Pradeep Gharat and Trivankumar Karnani, representing Shehzeen, also told the court that Zeeshan’s Y-category security was withdrawn soon after her plea was filed.

Special public prosecutor Mahesh Mule denied the allegations, stating that police attempted to record Shehzeen’s statement but were prevented by Zeeshan, who asked that all queries be directed to him. However, when the court asked for proof of summons, the prosecution sought more time to file its reply.

The case will be heard again later this month.
