Flights were temporarily halted at Bremen Airport in Germany after an unidentified drone was observed flying above, contributing to a series of similar incidents that have occurred recently. The drone was seen “in the immediate vicinity of the airport at approximately 7:30 pm (1830 GMT),” according to a police spokesperson from the northern city. Air traffic was suspended for nearly an hour, as police noted that it remained unclear who was operating the drone.
AFP was unable to contact Bremen Airport immediately to verify the number of flights affected. This drone sighting marks the latest incident causing flight disruptions in Germany over the past few weeks. An unidentified drone over Berlin Brandenburg Airport led to a nearly two-hour suspension of air traffic. Additionally, Munich Airport experienced two flight halts within two days due to similar reasons. German authorities have consistently warned that drones represent an increasing security threat, following a series of incursions near airports and military installations this year. Berlin, a significant supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, has indicated that Moscow may be involved in some of these activities. Russia has refuted these claims. In recent months, drones have also been observed over military bases, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure in Germany and other European Union nations, including Norway and Belgium.
