Kanpur: A 47-year-old widow was apprehended on Thursday following the arrest of her purported lover and his brother, who are accused of murdering her 22-year-old son in order to claim Rs 40 lakh from four life insurance policies taken out in his name, according to UP police. Mamta Devi is alleged to have conspired with Mayank Katiyar, 33, and his brother Rishi Katiyar, 28, to kill her son Pradeep Sharma on the night of October 26-27 in Angadpur village, Kanpur Dehat. SP Shraddha Narendra Pandey stated that Pradeep, who was employed in Andhra, had returned home to celebrate Diwali when his mother. “Mamta and Mayank orchestrated the murder to obtain the insurance funds,” Pandey remarked. The police reported that Mayank and Rishi lured Pradeep under the pretense of having dinner and transported him to a secluded area where they allegedly assaulted him with a hammer. His remains were discarded on the highway to make it appear as though it was a road accident, allowing Mamta to benefit from the insurance policies taken out in her son’s name, the police added.
