JAIPUR: In a major international breakthrough, the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in coordination with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has detained Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga, a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, near the US-Canada border.
Jagga, a key operative under Bishnoi’s lieutenant Rohit Godara, had been on the AGTF’s radar for years for his alleged involvement in over a dozen serious crimes across Rajasthan and Punjab, including attempted murder, extortion, and illegal arms trade. Multiple courts in Rajasthan had issued arrest warrants against him for offences ranging from jumping bail to violent assaults.
“Jagga is a hardened criminal with a long history of violent activities. His detention is a major blow to the transnational network of the Bishnoi gang,” said Dinesh MN, Additional Director General, AGTF. He credited the success to “precise intelligence gathering and seamless international coordination.”
According to officials, Jagga fled India three years ago, initially taking refuge in Dubai before illegally entering the United States. His capture followed months of surveillance and strategic coordination between Indian and American agencies.
Jagga’s criminal record includes a 2017 attempt on the life of Dr. Sunil Chandak in Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar area and his alleged role in the murder of Vasudev Israni in Jodhpur’s Sardarpura locality. He is also suspected of running extortion rackets and trafficking weapons abroad.
The AGTF is now working with central authorities to fast-track his deportation to India, where he will face prosecution.
“This operation reaffirms our commitment to tracking down fugitives wherever they hide. No criminal can escape justice, no matter the borders,” Dinesh MN told.
