NEW DELHI: The investigation into the alleged acid attack on a 19-year-old Delhi University student has taken a dramatic turn. Police have arrested the girl’s father, Akil Khan, accusing him of fabricating the attack story after allegedly sexually assaulting the wife of one of the men the girl had named as a suspect.
According to investigators, Khan confessed that he concocted the acid attack narrative to frame the woman’s husband, after she lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against him.
Police said that two days before the alleged attack, the woman had made a PCR call accusing Khan of harassment and blackmail. She told police that while working at his factory between 2021 and 2024, he sexually harassed her, coerced her into physical relations, and threatened her with objectionable photos and videos.
Investigators also discovered that an old property dispute existed between the mother of two other suspects and relatives of the girl’s father, further complicating the case.
During the probe, police found multiple contradictions in the girl’s statement and confirmed that none of the men she accused were present at the location at the time of the alleged incident.
Officers now suspect that the student may have inflicted burns on herself using toilet-cleaning liquid, though they are awaiting medical confirmation.
The supposed “acid attack” was reported around 10.52 a.m. on Sunday, when the student claimed that three men on a two-wheeler threw acid on her while she was on her way to college. A case was immediately registered.
However, as the investigation progressed, police uncovered several inconsistencies in her account, leading to the current twist in the case.
