BENGALURU: A 20-year-old first-year B Pharmacy student was brutally stabbed to death by her former boyfriend near the railway tracks in Srirampura on Thursday afternoon.

The victim, Yamini Priya G, a resident of Swatantrapalya in Srirampura, was attacked around 2 pm to 2.30 pm near her college in Hosakerehalli, Banashankari. Police were alerted to the incident at 2.50 pm.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Vignesh, is currently absconding. He allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds to Priya’s throat, face, and body, leaving her dead on the spot.

Investigators said Priya and Vignesh had previously been in a relationship but had grown apart due to personal differences. Despite her repeated refusals to reconcile, Vignesh continued to harass and follow her near her college and home.

Priya had recently filed a complaint at Srirampura Police Station, seeking protection and urging officers to warn Vignesh. Police confirmed that he was summoned and cautioned after her complaint.

Authorities also revealed that Vignesh had a criminal record, having been arrested earlier by City Market police for extorting money by impersonating police and marshals during the Covid-19 lockdown.

A murder case has been registered at the Srirampura Police Station, and teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the accused.
