LOS ANGELES: City Hall in Los Angeles was evacuated Friday after a vehicle rammed into the building’s front steps, prompting a heavy police and fire response.
Officials said the driver remained inside the car for nearly two hours before walking out with arms raised toward officers. He was immediately detained and handcuffed. No injuries were reported.
Mayor Karen Bass confirmed on X that the LAPD bomb squad was deployed “out of an abundance of caution” but later said the situation was “safely resolved.”
Video from news helicopters showed a cardboard sign displayed in the vehicle’s window reading: “I need ur help D TRUMP US VET” and “Don’t want to hurt no body.”
Police said they had initially responded to reports of a traffic collision around 4 p.m. Investigators are still determining the driver’s motive.
