INDORE/NEW DELHI: Two people were killed and 12 others injured after a three-storey building, with a basement, collapsed on Jawahar Marg near Premsukh Talkies in Indore’s Daulat Ganj area on Monday night.

The collapse occurred around 9 pm, trapping at least 13 people under the rubble. District Collector Shivam Verma, who reached the site, confirmed that 14 people were rescued, including a child who was later pulled out safely.

“Out of those rescued, two people have died. One woman is severely injured in the leg, while the remaining 11 are stable,” Verma said. The deceased were identified as Faheem and 20-year-old Alifa.

Rescue efforts were led by joint teams from the Municipal Corporation, police, district administration, SDERF, Civil Defence, and local residents. Heavy machinery, including JCBs and excavators, was deployed to clear debris.

Officials said the building was structurally weak, lacking proper beams and columns, while water accumulation around the site likely contributed to the collapse.

Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, Collector Verma, and Municipal Commissioner Dilip Yadav remained at the site overnight to monitor operations.

Earlier in the day, another two-storey house behind Premsukh Talkies had partially collapsed, injuring 10 people, including two children. That structure had commercial shops on the ground floor with residences above.

Authorities said the collapsed building was about eight years old. Investigations into construction quality and safety lapses are underway, though officials stressed the immediate focus remains on rescue and treatment of survivors.
