BENGALURU: A 32-year-old telecaller was brutally stabbed to death in full public view near the Sunkadakatte bus stand on Magadi Road on Monday. The victim, K. Rekha, was attacked allegedly by her husband, Lohitashwa, while their 12-year-old daughter looked on helplessly.
According to police, Rekha, a mother of two, sustained at least 11 stab wounds and later succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital.
Originally from Channarayapatna in Hassan district, Rekha had married Lohitashwa from Sira, Tumakuru. Both were in their second marriage and lived at Kebbehalli. Rekha worked at a call centre in Tavarekere and had earlier recommended Lohitashwa for a job at the same office, where he worked as a cab driver.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred as Rekha and her elder daughter were waiting to cross the road. “Lohitashwa suddenly appeared, confronted her, and after a heated exchange, pulled out a knife and stabbed her repeatedly,” police officials said.
The daughter’s attempts to intervene failed. Before bystanders could step in, the accused fled the spot. Rekha, bleeding profusely, was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
The couple’s elder daughter, in a state of shock, told police that her parents had frequent quarrels. “We will arrange counselling before taking a detailed statement from her. She is a key eyewitness,” officers said.
Rekha’s younger daughter, aged nine, currently lives with her grandparents in Channarayapatna.
