NEW DELHI: A brand-new Mahindra Thar worth over ₹15 lakh plunged from the first floor of a showroom in east Delhi’s Nirman Vihar after its owner accidentally drove it through a glass wall while performing a ritual, police said.
The 29-year-old woman behind the wheel had been carrying out the customary “nimbu ritual” — driving the car over a lemon for good luck — when she allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The SUV smashed through the railing and glass wall before falling nearly 15 feet to the ground.
The woman escaped with minor injuries, while her husband and a showroom employee, also inside the vehicle, were unharmed. The Thar, however, was left severely damaged.
Police said they were informed by the hospital about the injured woman around 6:08 pm on Monday, shortly after the 5 pm incident. No complaint has been filed yet, and investigators are examining the circumstances to decide on further action.
Videos of the crash, widely shared online, show the SUV lying upside down amid shattered glass, with a gaping hole visible on the showroom’s first floor.
