HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI: At least five people were killed and four others injured when a chariot came in contact with a live electric wire during a Krishna Janmashtami procession in Hyderabad’s Ramanthapur area late Sunday night, police said.
The incident occurred around midnight under Uppal police station limits, when a group of devotees was pulling the chariot. The vehicle touched an overhead power line, electrocuting those nearby.
The deceased have been identified as Krishna Yadav, Srikanth Reddy, Rudra Vikas, and Suresh Yadav. Police said five persons died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital by officers deployed on bandobust duty.
Authorities are investigating the incident, while additional safety measures are being planned for processions in the city.
