HYDERABAD: A 34-year-old vegetable vendor, Mamatha, who attempted suicide at her home in Aditya Nagar Colony, Mansoorabad, on June 25, died early Saturday at Gandhi Hospital, where she had been undergoing treatment.

According to police, Mamatha had made a distress video call to a family friend, Kandukuri Suresh, shortly before the incident. Alarmed, Suresh rushed to her house and, along with neighbour K Naresh, found her unconscious around 6:40 pm. Her husband, Srinivas Reddy, a driver, was away on duty at the time.

The couple had been married for 17 years and have a 16-year-old daughter.

Srinivas, who was alerted by Suresh, rushed home and immediately shifted Mamatha to a private hospital in Vanasthalipuram. She was later referred to Gandhi Hospital on June 26 for advanced care, but despite efforts, she passed away early Saturday morning.

“Family members indicated that financial difficulties may have driven her to take the extreme step,” said LB Nagar inspector K Vinod Kumar.

Following a complaint filed by Srinivas, LB Nagar police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). Mamatha’s body was handed over to her family after the post-mortem examination.
