BENGALURU: In a daring late-night theft, a group of unidentified miscreants targeted a truck transporting high-end Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycles through Bengaluru, managing to steal bike parts and personal belongings of the driver after failing to get away with an entire bike.
The incident took place around 2am near East Point Hospital in Virgonagar. The truck, driven by 45-year-old Nanda Lal from Dungarpur, Rajasthan, was en route from Haryana to deliver Hayabusa bikes to two automobile dealerships: Apple Auto Agency in Banashankari and Aryan Auto Agency in Bidarahalli.
Having completed the first delivery on June 22, Nanda was on his way to the second location when he lost his way. Hoping to ask for directions, he briefly parked the truck on the roadside near the hospital—leaving the keys inside—and walked into the premises.
That brief moment was all the thieves needed.
By the time Nanda returned, the truck had vanished.
Without his mobile phone or wallet—both left in the truck—Nanda had no way to contact his employer. He searched the surrounding area but couldn’t find the vehicle. By early morning on June 23, he reached Aryan Auto Agency and informed employee Jagadish about the theft. With Jagadish’s help, he contacted the truck owner, who then tracked the vehicle’s GPS location to Gundur village near Hoskote.
Nanda and Jagadish rushed to the spot and found the truck abandoned in a playground. The thieves had unsuccessfully attempted to offload one of the Hayabusas, causing significant damage to the bike’s silencer and body panels. They made off with its mirrors, batteries, and key set. Nanda’s phone and ₹3,000 in cash from his wallet were also stolen.
A case has been filed under Section 303 (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Avalahally police station. Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the route between Virgonagar and Gundur to trace the suspects.
“We believe the gang had prior knowledge about the truck’s contents. The Hayabusa starts at over ₹15 lakh, making it a high-value target,” a police officer said. “We’ve gathered some leads and are actively pursuing the culprits.”
