AGRA: Two workers tragically lost their lives after falling into a 12-foot-deep blood collection tank at a meat processing unit in Aligarh’s Roravar area late Thursday night. The deceased, identified as Imran Ahmed (25) and Asif Ahmed (30), were cleaning the tank when the incident occurred. Both were residents of Aligarh.
The accident took place around 9 p.m. after the two were summoned by their supervisor, just as they were preparing to finish their shift. While cleaning, they reportedly slipped and fell into the tank filled with animal blood. They lost consciousness almost immediately and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
As of Friday evening, no police complaint had been lodged, as the victims’ families were occupied with last rites. However, both families have alleged negligence by the labour contractor.
Imran’s wife, Khushboo, claimed her husband was coerced into working late at night under the threat of losing his wages. “He was called in at night, and when he didn’t want to go, the contractor threatened to stop his pay. We were informed the next morning that he had been taken to hospital. When we arrived, he was already dead,” she said.
Asif’s wife, Boby, also blamed the contractor, alleging that her husband was lured with a payment of ₹300 to report for night duty. “We were not even told right away. I only found out in the morning. We want justice,” she said.
Roravar SHO Shishupal Sharma confirmed that an investigation has been initiated. “The post-mortem report is awaited. We are looking into the matter and will take appropriate action. No formal complaint has been received so far,” he said.
