BAREILLY: In a shocking case of honour killing from Sambhal district, a pharmacist at a government health centre has been suspended and a contract worker dismissed for allegedly tampering with a teenager’s autopsy report in exchange for a Rs 50,000 bribe. The aim was to help the victim’s family frame her lover and cover up the murder.

The incident occurred in Haidpur village under Rajpura police station limits in Gunnor tehsil. On May 27, a 17-year-old girl was found hanging in her home. Initial appearances suggested suicide, but investigations later revealed that her father, Chandrakesh, and brother, Dharmendra, had strangled her and staged the hanging to mislead authorities.

The family then tried to falsely implicate four individuals, including the girl’s boyfriend, Pramod Kumar.

Sambhal SP Krishan Kumar Bishnoi confirmed on June 9 that the case was one of honour killing. Subsequently, the father, brother, pharmacist Madhur Arya, and another accused, Jai Prakash, were arrested and sent to jail.

Pharmacist Madhur Arya, posted at Bahjoi’s Community Health Centre, allegedly accepted Rs 50,000 to manipulate the post-mortem findings. Yash Sharma, a contractual worker at the local mortuary, was also found complicit and has had his services terminated.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tarun Pathak said, “Both individuals have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Madhur Arya has been suspended pending a departmental inquiry. Further action will be taken based on the investigation report.”

The case highlights a disturbing nexus between corruption and cover-ups in honour-related crimes and has prompted stricter scrutiny of post-mortem procedures in the district.
