CHANDEL: Ten militants were killed in an intense gunfight with the Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Chandel district, security forces confirmed late Wednesday.
According to the Indian Army, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about the movement of armed insurgents near New Samtal village in Khengjoy Tehsil, close to the Indo-Myanmar border. The operation was carried out by a unit of the Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps and remained ongoing at the time of reporting.
“Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village, Khengjoy Tehsil, Chandel District, an operation was launched by an Assam Rifles unit on May 14, 2025,” the Army’s Eastern Command stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
During the course of the operation, troops reportedly came under fire from suspected militants. The soldiers responded swiftly, redeploying tactically and retaliating in a controlled and coordinated manner.
“In the ensuing firefight, 10 cadres were neutralised, and a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered,” the Army’s statement said.
The identities of those killed have not yet been disclosed, and security forces continue to monitor the area for further threats.
