KOCHI: A 45-year-old woman was found dead inside a water tank on the premises of a vacant house in Valanchery, Malappuram, on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Fathima, a resident of Athipatta, located near the site of the incident.
According to police, the house where the body was discovered had been unoccupied. A man assigned to water the trees in the compound and care for tortoises kept in the water tank found the body when he checked the tank to feed the animals. Fathima had reportedly gone missing earlier in the day, and her body was found within a few hours of her disappearance.
Police said Fathima had a history of mental health issues, and there are no indications of foul play at this point in the investigation. The body has been sent to Manjeri Medical College for autopsy.
Valanchery Police have registered a case of unnatural death. The body will be handed over to the family following the post-mortem examination scheduled for Monday.
