JAMMU: A seven-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound during an intense exchange of fire between security forces and 4-5 Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorists in the Sanyal area of Hiranagar, Kathua district, on Sunday.
“Anchal Kumari, daughter of Nago from Bihar, suffered a minor bullet injury and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital,” a source confirmed.
An Army spokesperson dismissed social media claims of troop casualties, labeling them as “false and deliberate disinformation.”
Based on intelligence about the presence of armed terrorists in Sanyal village near the Indo-Pak border, a joint team comprising the Army, CRPF, and state police launched a cordon and search operation. “As security forces advanced, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight,” the source added.
Hideout Busted in Doda, Operations in Kishtwar
On Saturday evening, a joint team of the Army and police uncovered a terrorist hideout in the Bhalra forest area of Doda’s Bhaderwah. “The operation, which began on Thursday after locals reported suspicious activity in the higher reaches, led to the recovery of a pistol, three magazines, and 25 rounds of AK rifle ammunition,” a source said.
Security forces also launched combing operations in neighboring Kishtwar district on Sunday as part of their ongoing counter-terror efforts.
Rising Terror Activity in Jammu Region
The Kathua encounter comes nearly two years after a powerful blast near the Sanyal border police post created a massive crater on March 29, 2023, triggering panic among locals. A live grenade was recovered during searches the following day.
Jammu region has seen a surge in terrorist activities in recent months. On March 21, suspected terrorists hurled a grenade at a police vehicle in Rajouri but missed their target. Earlier, on February 26, armed terrorists opened fire on an Army convoy in Akhnoor.
Security forces remain on high alert, intensifying search operations across the region to counter the growing threat.
