A 45-year-old man, identified as Pandurang Bapu Patil, tragically lost his life after being crushed by a 14-wheel container truck while he was sleeping beneath it in the APMC market. The incident occurred when the driver, unaware of his presence, started the vehicle. Patil was employed as a laborer in the market.
The accident took place on Monday between noon and 1 PM at Mathadi Circle in Dhana Market. Initially, the police registered a case against an unknown individual since the driver had fled the scene. However, he was later apprehended around 9 PM in Mahape after being identified through CCTV footage. The driver was revealed to be 47-year-old Asgar Ali Khan from Uttar Pradesh.
The APMC police have filed charges under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to law enforcement, the victim was resting in the shade of the parked truck at the time of the incident. Investigating officer Pranita Bhakare of the APMC police station stated, “The man’s death resulted from the driver’s negligence, as the vehicle ran over his head and chest. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that the area around and beneath the vehicle is clear before moving.”
