This happened because DG Shipping, Govt. of India took bold initiative with support from Industry, NUSI, ITF & Indonesian Embassy. Two Indian Seafarers who replaced the Indonesians seafarers., were placed on-board as replacement crew as per MS Notice 6 of 2016 on the cold laid up vessel. The initiative was authenticated and endorsed by legal provisions from Hon’ble High Court of Bombay. Big SALUTE to fellow Indian seafarers (supported by RPS VRM by motivation and wages); who have boarded the vessel till the vessel is auctioned and sold within next few months. The out of the box thinking / support to seafarer is a milestone event for Human Rights at Sea and all such abandonment cases struck in legal battle. This is case study for all countries in the world who are Signatory to MLC 2006 as well as who do studies on Human Element at Sea and for a paper submission by India for probable solutions to ILO / IMO for all such vessel abandonment and arrested cases. Next in line in few days is release of 22 Indian crew from abandonment vessel MT Nirvana, Bhavnagar Anchorage with support by ITF and court order.
