Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) has arrested five individuals for the illegal transportation of alprazolam and chloral hydrate in Nirmal district. Authorities seized 425 kg of chloral hydrate and 1.1 kg of alprazolam, with an estimated combined value of ₹52 lakh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as B. Rama Goud from Nizamabad and Ramesh, K. Rajam, E. Srinivas, and B. Rajasekhar from Karimnagar district.
Investigators revealed that the drugs were manufactured in Nimbavali village, located in Thane district of Maharashtra. Rama Goud, who had previously been arrested in January 2024 by prohibition and excise officials for a similar offense, is a known repeat offender. After securing bail, he allegedly regrouped and devised a plan to resume illegal drug production.
According to police, Goud teamed up with the other four accused, and with the help of Rajam, rented a secluded location near Nimbavali to set up a clandestine drug manufacturing unit. The group intended to supply the drugs to toddy shops for use in producing spurious liquor.
On June 19, the gang packed 17 bags of the contraband into two cars for transport. They were apprehended by TGANB officials while en route.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the distribution network.
